I think I may have an eating disorder, now what?
If you think you may have an eating disorder, it is important to begin assembling your team to get the support you need as soon as possible.
First, it's important to get checked out by a primary care physician (preferably one who understands eating disorders) - try to be honest about what you are experiencing, both physically and mentally - and remember it is always okay to tell your doctor you are not interested in knowing or seeing your weight if that may be triggering.
Next, contact a mental health counselor and registered dietician who specialize in treating eating disorders and set-up an intake appointment with each. Again, it is important to be honest about all you are experiencing.
If needed, also contact a psychiatrist or med provider. Although there are not medications used to specifically treat eating disorders, there are some medications for depression and anxiety that can help support you on your journey to recovery.
